This is often considered the most dangerous form of snowmobile racing. Sleds must be equipped with special studs and other traction devices to prevent the machines (and drivers) from careening into the walls at speeds exceeding 80 miles per hour. As one of the earliest forms of snowmobile racing, some the most historic races and legendary racers are from the ice racing discipline, including the Grand Prix de Valcourt and the infamous Eagle River Derby.
