The Fässler gear honing process is used at TEAM Industries for hard finishing of spur and helical gears.

The honing process follows hobbing and heat treatment and aims at correcting distortions in the gear tooth profile caused by the heat-treat process. The honing process improves the surface finish on the involute profile and aids in reducing transmission error on the gear set, thus reducing the noise generated. With a minimum amount of stock removal the hard gear honing process, in certain applications, accomplishes what is done with gear grinding at a fraction of the cost. In fact, in some cases noise performance is better, due to the crossed axis cutting action similar to gear shaving.

Fässler gear honing is also applied after green shaving and hardening or gear grinding for the purpose of producing high quality, low noise gears. Many luxury automobile makers use hard gear honing on their manual transmission models for noise reduction.
